What to arrange

During the postpartum period, there is not much more to be arranged. If all goes well, the baby will have been recognised during pregnancy (in couples who are not married). After the baby is born, he/she still needs to be registered at the town hall.

During the postpartum period, there is not much more to be arranged. If all goes well, the baby will have been recognised during pregnancy (in couples who are not married). After the baby is born, he/she still needs to be registered at the town hall.

The registration can only be done by someone who was present at the birth, i.e. your (birth) partner. It is a good idea to make an appointment so that you do not have to wait long at the town hall. Bring your proof of identity and your marriage booklet with you.

It is also possible to register your child online. For this, you will need: DigiD login details of both parents and any recognition certificate details. Within three days, your partner will need to come by to sign the birth certificate.

It is also important to register the baby with the health insurance company in the first week. This is free of charge and can be arranged simply by telephone.
