After the first week

After the conclusion of the maternity week, we are responsible for obstetric care for another 5 weeks. After those weeks, you will have a follow-up check-up, this is often with us, but sometimes at the hospital.

Follow-up

The follow-up check-up is not obligatory, but sometimes it is nice to end the previous period together in this way. It allows us to catch up with you and answer any questions you may have. Even if you did not give birth with (one of) us, you can still come for a check-up. Sometimes there is a reason to have your check-up in hospital as well. You will be told by the hospital right after you give birth, or by us during the prenatal week.

Consultation centre

After the week of the birth, we hand over the care of the baby to the child healthcare centre. The district nurse will visit you after the week of birth for the intake. She monitors your baby's growth and development.

GP

After we finish the maternity week, we hand over the care for you and the baby to the family doctor. It is a good idea to contact the GP when:

  • Your baby develops a fever in the first 3 months after delivery, or you are worried about your baby.
  • You need medical care other than obstetric care
